Cottey Signs First Cross-Country/Track Recruit
Austin Bunn, coach of the Cottey College Comets Cross-Country and Track team, is pleased to announce the very first signee for the new athletic program. Sarah Kurpjuweit of Humansville, Missouri, inked her letter of intent on Friday, March 14.
“Sarah was my top recruit to get to come help build the program at Cottey,” said Bunn. “She is a hard-working girl with a ton of running experience and talent. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to work with her for the next two years.”
Kurpjuweit’s accolades in cross-country include being a state qualifier all four years of high school, finishing sixth in 2013 and eighth in 2011, earning her All-State status in Class 1A for those two seasons. She was also district champion the last two seasons and district runner-up in 2011. Kurpjuweit was an All-District runner for all four years she ran cross-country.
In track, Kurpjuweit finished eighth in the state in the 3200 meters in 2012, earning All-State honors in Class 1A. She was a state qualifier in 3200 meters in 2011 as well, and was a state qualifier in 1600 meters 2010-2012.
