Comets Fall to 15-2 with Loss to Penn Valley
The Cottey College Comets had their winning streak stopped for the second time this season by the Penn Valley Lady Scouts. Last night, Cottey fell by an 88-47 score in a game in Kansas City.
The Comets once again had no answer for Penn Valley's dominant post player Jay Bland who had 19 points. She was one of five players from Penn Valley to score in double figures. The Lady Scouts defense also stymied the Comets.
The Comets trailed 39-20 at the break, and it just didn't get any better for the Comets in the second half as the hosts dominated on offense and defense.
Leading scorer for the Comets was Bailey Braden who finished the night with 10 points. No other Comets were in double figures.
The loss dropped the Comets to 15-2 on the season and 4-2 against Region XVI rivals. If the Comets beat Wentworth Military Academy on Saturday and North Central Missouri College in the final game of the season next Tuesday, they will be the second seed in the postseason tournament.
The next home game will be on Saturday, February 16, when Cottey faces Wentworth Military Academy. That game will tip off at 1 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
