Comets Get Win Over Hesston, Move to 14-1
The Cottey College Comets got their fourth consecutive win on Saturday as they easily defeated Hesston College 73-62 before the home crowd.
The Comets jumped out to an early 16-10 lead, and were never really challenged after that by the Lady Larks as they pulled away throughout the game. Cottey was able to build a hefty 39-27 lead at the break.
It was all Comets early in the second half as they twice built the lead to 20 points, 62-42 and 65-45, before Hesston made a late run. It was too little too late, though, as the Comets held on to their large lead and cruised down the stretch to an easy win.
Leading scorer for the Comets was Blaklee Sanders, who had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Also in double figures was Dayna Turnbull with 13 points. Kat Zumalt came off the bench to add 10 points as well. Just missing double figures was guard Chelsey Rowland with nine points.
The win raised the 20th-ranked Comets' record to 14-1 on the season. The next game for the Comets will be on Saturday, February 9, when they face the always tough St. Louis Community College Archers. That game will tip off at 1 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
