Comets Keep Winning With Victory Over NCMC
The Cottey College Comets kept the winning streak alive with a decisive 71-48 victory over North Central Missouri College last night in Trenton, Missouri.
It was a fairly even first half as the Comets entered the break with a narrow 29-28 lead. However, Cottey turned it on both offensively and defensively in the second half, scoring 42 points in the last 20 minutes while holding the Lady Pirates to a stingy 20 points in that half.
It was Dayna Turnbull and Blaklee Sanders who really came alive on offense in the second half, with both players scoring 14 points in that final frame. Selena Gochenour had 10 points in the second half as well. Overall, the leading scorer for the Comets was Sanders with 21 points. Turnbull had a total of 14 points, and Bailey Braden and Gochenour each finished with 12 points on the night.
The Comets raised their record to 13-1 with their third consecutive win. The next game for the Comets is Saturday, February 2, when they face Hesston College in a rematch of a contest the Comets narrowly won in overtime last week. That game will tip off at 1 p.m. inside the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
