Comets Remain Undefeated
The Cottey College Comes made it a perfect 10-0 on the season last night as they defeated Wentworth Military Academy 66-62 in Lexington, Missouri, last night.
It was not an easy victory for the Comets as they found themselves behind by six points with 3:40 left in the game, despite the fact that Cottey held an eight-point lead at halftime, 32-24. Wentworth outscored the Comets 38-34 in the final 20 minutes, and out-rebounded the Comets 50-40 in the game as well.
It was free throw shooting that gave the Comets an edge as they were 12 of 18 from the charity stripe, while the hosts shot only 4 of 12 from the line. The Comets shot 13 of those free throws in the second half. Solid scoring from Blaklee Sanders, who had 11 second half points, was critical to the Comets win.
New Zealand freshman Dayna Turnbull led Cottey with 20 points and was joined in double-digits by second-year forwards Blaklee Sanders who had 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Bailey Braden who added 10 points. Guard Chelsea Rowland also had 10 points of her own.
The Comets will put their perfect record on the line Saturday, January 19, when they face Penn Valley in the first home game of the semester. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. in the friendly confines of Hinkhouse Gymnasium.
