Comets End Semester with Perfect Record
The Cottey College Comets are heading into the holiday break with a perfect 8-0 record after last night's defeat of Ft. Scott Community College 71-54.
Cottey's quickness, especially on defense, kept the Lady Greyhounds from getting any traction in the first half. The host team was only able to make six field goals in the opening 20 minutes as the Comets took a 31-18 lead into the break.
Both teams shot better in the second half, Ft. Scott doubled its output from the first half, but Cottey's offense set the pace. Dayna Turnbull, who had a single point in the first frame, scored an even dozen in the second half.
For the game, Cottey's Blaklee Sanders led the team with 27 points and nine rebounds, just missing a double-double. Other Comets in double figures include Turnbull with 13 points and Petra Stankovic with 10.
The Comets also made their first appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II basketball polls this week, debuting as the number 19 team in the nation.
The next home game for the Comets will be on January 19 against Penn Valley. There have been three changes to the spring schedule of games. Please note that the January 9 game vs. William Woods University has been cancelled. The game against Central Methodist College on January 23 has been rescheduled for January 22. The game against Hesston College on January 26 has been rescheduled for January 25.
