Comets Fall in Final Home Volleyball Match
The Cottey College Comets dropped their final home volleyball match of the 2012 season, losing to Metropolitan Community College-Longview in three games 14-25, 13-25, and 17-25.
The Comets played well in the first minutes of each game, tied at 9 in game two and trailing by one 12-13 in game three, but ultimately couldn't compete with Longview's height and bench depth.
"We started out really well [in game two] and stayed along their side with a tie at 11-11," said head coach Marla Kannady Foreman. "We then went 11-15, and they continued to make a 10-2 run on us to take set two. Our unforced errors have haunted us all season, and we have to figure out a way to overcome that, especially when we are up against some strong competition. The fact that we were tied at 11-11, states we are capable of playing with anyone in the region, when we limit the number of unforced errors."
Team leaders for the Comets were Alexis Self and Hannah Wilson with eight assists each. There was a three-way tie in kills among Self, Kristina Coverdell, and Skyler Ford with five each. Ford and Kasey Hall each had two blocks, and Kymee Bair led with 12 digs.
The loss dropped the Comets to 9-9 on the season. The final regular season match will be on Friday, October 26, when they travel to Ft. Scott, Kansas, to face border rival Ft. Scott Community College. Postseason play will begin on November 2 in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on the Longview campus.
