Two Cottey Comets Named Academic Student-Athlete Award Winners
NEVADA, MO—The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named two Cottey College Comets to the list of academic student-athlete award winners. Softball players Taylor Buck and Kelly Spong were both named to the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award list. To be on that list, an athlete must have a grade point average between 3.60 and 3.79 on a 4.0 scale.
Buck, from Harriman, Tennessee, and Spong from Fairfax, Virginia, both played softball for two years for the Comets and graduated this past spring.
Nearly 60,000 student-athletes competed in the NJCAA for the 2011-2012 academic year on over 3,500 teams in 28 different sports. Over 1,680 NJCAA student-athletes met the requirements for individual academic honors, according to the NJCAA’s Web site.
