Cottey College Passes New Benchmark in Campaign

NEVADA, MO—Dr. Judy Rogers, president of Cottey College is pleased to announce A Defining Moment: The Campaign for Cottey College has raised over $22 million a little past the halfway point of the five-year, $35 million campaign, launched in September 2009. Under the leadership of Barbara Andes, campaign chairman, the Campaign is the first comprehensive Campaign in the history of the college.

“We are right on target to bring this campaign to a successful conclusion over the final one-and-a-half years,” said Dr. Rogers. “Cottey’s incredible network of volunteers has been amazing with what they have accomplished in such a short period of time.”

“Cottey has been very fortunate to have alumnae like Susan Matthews Rouleau and her husband, Michael, who have made significant gifts to the Campaign which helped push us over our benchmark. We attribute receiving gifts like the Rouleau’s to Cottey’s impactful presence in the lives of its alumnae,” added Rogers.

Susan, a 1972 graduate of Cottey College, has maintained a lifelong interest in music noting that Cottey nurtured her already apparent love of music and entertaining while she was a student.  After graduating from Cottey, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington.  Susan continues to enjoy her interest in music through involvement more in organizations in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area. She is a board member of Arizona Musicfest and sings in the Arizona Musicfest Chorus.

The Rouleaus hosted an awareness event for the Campaign at their Scottsdale home in 2010. However, in 2012 when they returned to campus for Susan’s class reunion, Michael was able to see the Cottey campus firsthand, and to observe the quality education Cottey provided to young women. The Rouleau’s gift will sponsor the atrium in the new Fine Arts Instructional Building.

“In addition to the Rouleaus, we have had other generous donors who helped push us over the midpoint benchmark,” added Carla Bryant Farmer, campaign manager and senior gifts officer. “A notable gift recently received from benefactor Dorothy Dyer Vanek, underwrote the cost of a home softball field for the Comets.”

The campaign staff is not resting on its laurels after the positive announcement. Members of the administration and campaign staff will be hosting other events on the eastern seaboard as well as in California, Texas, and the Midwest over the next few months.
