So close, but in the end, the Cottey College Comets fell just short of upsetting nationally ranked North Arkansas last night as they ended the regular season with a loss, 53-59.

The Lady Pioneers led 34-30 at the half, but the Comets had a nice lead before they let North Ark make a run near the end of the half. Cottey had a solid 22-13 lead when the Lady Pioneers went on a tear. Two three-pointers and a basket inside quickly made the lead disappear. The Comets missed their last shot of the half.

Both teams were evenly matched in the second half. Both made runs. The Lady Pioneers would pull ahead, and the Comets would charge back and cut the lead.  Late in the game, the Comets trailed 54-51 after a basket by Blaklee Sanders. North Ark answered with a basket of its own, when Chelsey Rowland was fouled and went to the free throw line. Rowland hit both shots to cut the deficit to three points again, but the Comets could not score again as they turned the ball over.

Jordan Davidson led Cottey with 15 points and Sanders added 12 points. Bailey Braden led the team in rebounds with nine.

The Comets ended the regular season with a final record of 6-16. They will begin postseason play on Friday, March 9, in the Region XVI tournament in Sedalia, Missouri.
